Are You Content?

As long as we are distracted by what the world offers us, we'll miss out on the peace of having all God has given us. We have to recognize this won't always come naturally or easily. But contentment will always be worth pursuing. Being content isn’t something that just happens, it’s a lifestyle we choose — daily.

You say, “If I had a little more,
I should be very satisfied.”
But you make a mistake.
If you are not content with what
you have, you would not be satisfied
if it were doubled.

Charles Spurgeon

Are you content?

Store your treasures in heaven, where they will never become moth-eaten or rusty and where they will be safe from thieves. Wherever your treasure is, there your heart and thoughts will also be … So don’t worry about having enough food or drink or clothing. Why be like the pagans who are so deeply concerned about these things? Your heavenly Father already knows all your needs, and he will give you all you need from day to day if you live for him and make the Kingdom of God your primary concern. So don’t worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will bring its own worries. Today’s trouble is enough for today. — Matthew 6:22-23, 31-33, NLT

What is God asking you to lay down? What worries and fears are you carrying around?

It’s easy for us to get caught up in all the fear and fretfulness our culture creates. But we have something far greater to hold on to — the promise of God’s sufficiency and sovereignty. When we learn to rest in Him, to trust His provision, to stop striving to be more or to have more, it’s only then can we learn to be content. As long as we are distracted by what the world offers us, we’ll miss out on the peace of having all God has given us. We have to recognize this won’t always come naturally or easily. But contentment will always be worth pursuing. Being content isn’t something that just happens, it’s a lifestyle we choose — daily.

Today, whatever is on your schedule and to do list,  will  you take a moment to prepare your heart as well? Contemplate how God has met every need {and probably many “wants”} in your life — allow your heart to be overwhelmed with His tender care for you. And choose to be content.
