15 Great Bible Studies for Women

So, almost six years ago I wrote a little post titled Top Ten Bible Study Recommendations and, y’all, it keeps pushing its way to the top of the pile around here. Those ten recommendations are still some of my favorites but I figured it might be time for an updated list. 🙂

15 great Bible studies for women from teachers like Denise J. Hughes, Beth Moore, Jen Wilkin, Lysa TerKeurst, and Lisa Harper.

15 Great Bible Studies for Women

First a couple of caveats … because undoubtedly I will leave off your favorite study, right?

  1. This list does not include what I call “book studies” which are often found lumped in with the Bible studies in Christian bookstores. Each of these studies engages in deep Word study rather than on topics or principles found in a book.
  2. These authors are exceptional Bible teachers, many of whom I have heard in person or know personally. These are the writers and teachers who have shaped and are shaping my own writing and teaching of the Holy Scriptures.  While there are women on this list who write more than Bible studies, each of these women, I believe, would primarily identify herself as a Bible teacher.

And one other note. many of these links are affiliate links and I will receive a small commission if you choose to purchase through them. So thank you for helping me continue to locate and curate great resources to share with you as you seek to grow spiritually!

Studies I Am Doing Now

Word Writers James by Denise J. Hughes

I love, love, love the Word Writers studies. Denise is an insightful and gifted teacher. James is the third in the Word Writers series and I suppose it speaks to how much I love theses studies that I’ve done all three. Word Writers is suitable for both individual and group study. And if you have an older daughter, this would be a great one to do together.

Entrusted: A Study of 2 Timothy by Beth Moore

Several of my friends in ministry recommended Beth Moore’s latest study to me. They were, of course, right! It’s been years since I did one of Beth’s studies and this one is a great reintroduction to her solid teaching and personable writing. I also love that her daughter Melissa has included some articles that allow for digging deeper into some of the theological themes in 2 Timothy.

Making Room: A Study of Biblical Hospitality from She Reads Truth

I am a HUGE She Reads Truth fan! I have been doing their online studies for the past several years and love them.  In the first day of the study, Raechel wrote, “Hospitality, I’m learning, is often untidy and almost inconvenient. But making room isn’t about my own comfort. It’s about taking something I presume is mine and offering it to someone else.” So good, right?

Studies I Have Done in the Past Year

FOCUSed 15 Everyday Hope by Katie Orr

FOCUSed 15 is a series of inductive Bible studies designed for the busy woman. Katie is a pastor’s wife, mom of three, and a women’s ministry speaker in addition to writing so she knows all about the time constraints 21st-century women face. Katie has also written three other studies in this series: Everyday Love, EverydayPeace, and Everyday Faith.

1 Peter: A Living Hope in Christ by Jen Wilkin

Full disclaimer here: Jen Wilkin is currently my favorite Bible teacher. Her emphasis on Bible study as primarily a means of growing in knowledge and understanding of God’s character resonates deeply within my own Bible teaching heart.  If you are looking for a great study to help you dig deep into the Word, I highly recommend 1 Peter.  Jen has another Bible study available on The Sermon on the Mount  and she is the author of  None Like Him: 10 Ways God Is Different from Us (and Why That’s a Good Thing). Her book, Women of the Word, should (in my opinion) be required reading for anyone who is teaching or studying Scripture.

Word Writers Philippians and Ephesians by Denise J. Hughes

The first two studies in the Word Writers series are just as great at James. One of my favorite aspects of these studies is the encouragement to write out the passages o Scripture as you study. There is something about taking time to write out whole books of the Bible that helps make the messages and truths even more meaningful. (I didn’t mention this above, but this is also a component in the Entrusted study.)

Open Your Bible by Raechel Myers and Amanda Bible Williams

We used this study by the She Reads Truth founders in our ladies Bible study last fall. I loved it. It was great for those who are new to a more inductive type of study and for those of us who have long been students of the Word.  Raechel and Amanda are great storytellers with a deep passion for the Bible and both of those qualities are evident in this study.

The Gospel of Mark: The Jesus We’re Aching For by Lisa Harper

This is one of my favorite studies of all time! I have always enjoyed studying the life of Christ through the Gospels and Lisa Harper is one of the most gifted Bible teachers of our generation. If you have never done one of her studies, it’s way past time! And, you can join the online Bible study with LifeWay Women. It kicks off March 2. For more info and to sign up, click here!

Joshua and Acts by She Reads Truth

As I mentioned, I do a lot of She Reads Truth studies online. Two of my favorite from the past year or so are Joshua and Acts. I had never done a deeper group study of either of these books and I loved joining the SRT for each of them. One of the great things about She Reads Truth studies is they are available online even after the original study is complete. So check both of these out — they are great!

Studies I Plan to Do in 2017

Hebrews: The Nearness of King Jesus by Lisa Harper

After doing her study on Mark, I know I will love this Hebrews study. My plan is to use this study as I read my friend Stacey’s book, Is Jesus Worth It?, which releases in September and is also about Hebrews. It’s a safe bet that Lisa’s powerful teaching combined with Stacey’s winsome writing will make one of my favorite New Testament books come alive in a whole new way!

Finding I AM: How Jesus Fully Satisfies the Cry of Your Heart by Lysa TerKeurst

Lysa is one of my favorite speakers and I’ve read almost all her books. So when I saw she had a new study available on one of my favorite parts of Scripture — the I AM statements of Christ — I knew I had to do it! My plan is to start this study when I finish Entrusted.

All Things New: A Study on 2 Corinthians by Kelly Minter

So, I’m really late to the Kelly Minter club but I am definitely looking forward to this study! When I saw it on the LifeWay women blog, I knew it was one I had to do! I plan to do it over this spring. Since my book launches in July, I know it’s going to be incredibly important to stay focused on time in the Word as I prepare for all that will involve.  {Also, Kelly has a version of this study for teen girls so I may invite Casiday to do it with me!}
