Do you really believe God is a good, good Father?

You’ve heard the song, right? Just in case you haven’t (or you’re like me and LOVE it), here you go …

Do you really believe God is a good, good Father?

He is. He can’t NOT be. It’s inherent in His character to be truly good, in fact, He alone is the embodiment of good. As the song says, “It’s who You are, it’s who You are, it’s who You are.”

This morning I read these verses:

Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives, and the one who seeks finds, and to the one who knocks it will be opened. Or which one of you, if his son asks him for bread, will give him a stone? Or if he asks for a fish, will give him a serpent? If you then, who are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father who is in heaven give good things to those who ask him!

Matthew 7:7-11

Jesus, trying to help His listeners grasp the love God has for them, compares our heavenly Father to an earthly father. If, as human parents, we give our children good gifts then “how much more” does God, our Father, desire to give us good gifts?

God is a good, good Father. Even when we can't see it, we can trust God is at work and that He is good.

I’ve read those verses countless times in my life. I’ve heard sermons and sat in Bible studies where they were preached and taught. But this morning, as I read, I realized something—

Far too often I believe these verses for everyone else but somehow doubt them for myself.

Maybe you do too?

This morning, I was reminded God desires to give me the very best too. Even when I can’t see it or understand the ways He is at work, I can trust that He is indeed at work. And His work is both for His glory AND for my good. I can trust Him and I can rest in His character.

Today, I don’t know what you are facing. I have no idea what struggles are a part of your life right now. But I do know this: HE DOES! And He is a good, good Father. He can’t not be. And because of that, we can trust this: We are loved by Him!
