Living Sacrifices

Welcome to Day 16 of 31 Ways to Embrace Living Lopsided!

On Sundays we are taking time to meditate on a specific verse or passage and understand how it helps us live abundantly and with intention.

Today’s verse is one of my favorites:

 I appeal to you therefore, brothers, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable to God, which is your spiritual worship. Romans 12:1

Lopsided Living Reminds Us We Are Called to Be Living Sacrifices

Lopsided Living reminds us of our call to be living sacrifices, willingly obedient and trusting God's plan is for our good & His glory at all times.

That phrase, living sacrifices, is a beautiful one. It’s about our willingness to put ourselves on the altar. In the Old Testament we see it with Isaac. Often when we think of the account of Abraham offering Isaac, we imagine Isaac was a little boy. But, in all likelihood, he was a teenager or maybe even young adult. The fact that Abraham had him carry the wood and other items necessary for the sacrifice is an indication of Isaac’s strength.

Isaac didn’t have to obey his father. He could have fought for himself and refused to get on the altar. Or fought his way off once there. But he didn’t …

He stayed, trusting his father loved him and would only act for his good.

Jesus is, of course, the most perfect example of a living sacrifice. Again, He didn’t have to stay on the cross. The mockers were right when they taunted Him with the idea of taking Himself off.  But He didn’t …

He stayed, trusting His Father’s love and actions were not only for His good — but also for ours.

Today, I urge you to spend some time reading the accounts of Isaac and Jesus and ask God to give you a fresh understanding of what it means to be a living sacrifice.  {Genesis 22:1-19; Matthew 27:24-55; Mark 15:6-41; Luke 23:18-49, John 19:1-30}

And, for our simple way to embrace lopsided living, let’s do this —

MEMORIZE ROMANS 12:1 AS A REMINDER WE CAN TRUST GOD IS ALWAYS WORKING FOR OUR GOOD AND FOR HIS GLORY.

Offer yourself as a living sacrifice, trusting He is at work for your good & for His glory. #LopsidedLiving Click To Tweet

I pray you have a restful and worshipful Sunday.
