What I’m Reading {September 2016}

Y'all, my book stack is HUGE. Seriously. But so many of my friends are writing so many great books ... and I want to tell you all about all of them. But then all I'd be talking about is books and while I love books, I also have other things I want to share with you so these posts are my way of giving you information about what I'm reading and what books I think you'd love. {Also, that was seriously a crazy run-on sentence. ha!} So, here the books I'm working my way through in September. {The ... Why Does Memorizing Scripture Matter?

When we lived in Georgia, I was honored to be a mentor to high school and college girls as well as several women. While the topics we discussed and Scriptures we studied were varied, there were always two disciplines I focused on with each person: Daily Bible study and Scripture memorization. I've written a lot about the value of a good quiet time but I haven't written so much about memorizing the Word of God.  I'm not sure why, except that it is hard for me. I can read and study all day ... [Read More]

Looking at Ourselves through the True Lens

Last week I had to get my headshots updated. Can I tell you how much I *hate* doing that? All I can see in photos of myself is chipmunk cheeks and the way my stomach pooches out so I look a little bit pregnant {which I assure you I am not!}. Scott was doing the photos and all I could think was, "Keep your stomach sucked in, girlfriend!" Later that night as he began showing me the 200ish photos he'd taken, all I could see was my too big nose and not flat tummy. Every flaw seemed magnified by ... [Read More]

Are You Content?

You say, “If I had a little more, I should be very satisfied.” But you make a mistake. If you are not content with what you have, you would not be satisfied if it were doubled. Charles Spurgeon Are you content? Store your treasures in heaven, where they will never become moth-eaten or rusty and where they will be safe from thieves. Wherever your treasure is, there your heart and thoughts will also be … So don’t worry about having enough food or drink or clothing. Why be like the pagans ... [Read More]

Praying the Psalms {or “I No Longer Think David Was a Whiner”}

I can be, well let's just say, I can be overly emotional. I like to blame it on my mid-forties hormones but the truth is, I've always been this way. I come by it honest — my Bigmama is, as my Aunt Mollianne says, "a force of nature." I feel things deeply, believe things strongly, and speak things passionately. I get tears in my eyes every time the band plays "Star-Spangled Banner" before a football game and I laugh hysterically at the cat and cucumber videos every time I watch them on ... [Read More]

In Him: 10 Truths from Colossians

In Christ ... We have redemption.  He has delivered us from the domain of darkness and transferred us to the kingdom of his beloved Son, in whom we have redemption, the forgiveness of sins. Colossians 1:13-14 All things were created. For by him all things were created, in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or rulers or authorities—all things were created through him and for him. Colossians 1:16 Everything holds together. And he is before all things, ... [Read More]
