Perspective

A week ago we were at Sea World giggling at the antics of sea lions and otters and wondering at the strength of killer whales. Four days ago I was using humor to make light of my current state of disorganization. Two days ago I was teaching some of my clients at the crisis pregnancy center the truth that Jesus is the Light of the World. But now ... today ... I'm on my knees in prayer. Our niece (my husband's brother's daughter) is in PICU at a hospital in Birmingham.   A week ago, ... [Read More]

A woman of prayer.  Powerful, effective, fervent prayer.  A righteous woman, grounded in the Word of God ... generating a legacy and heritage of faithfulness not to church or religion but to the Word-Made-Flesh. That's my desire.   My heart's deepest longing ... to know Him, to know His Word, and to live in Him, abide in Him. And with that desire, comes a hunger for knowledge, for inspiration, for encouragement, for challenge ... from others who have trod the path or are currently near me on ... [Read More]

Construction Zone: Worshiper’s Heart

August 24, 2009 {I didn’t have any notes about reading Proverbs this morning … because some days I don’t.  But here is what I wrote …} S and C are cuddled up together in his chair, sleeping.  It’s 6:11 am and the only sounds in the house are the soft snores of my husband and daughter, the gentle hum of the ceiling fan, and that comforting drip of my coffee maker.  I’m curled up in my favorite corner of the couch with my Bible, this journal, and my Bible study book. My only thought is this – God ... [Read More]

Construction Zone: His Wife

November 5, 2003 Let your wife be a fountain of blessing for you.  Rejoice in the wife of your youth. Proverbs 5:18 This verse always catches me!  Lord, too often I fail to be a “fountain of blessing” to Scott.  Open my eyes and my heart to opportunities to bless him – let me be his biggest fan, his most loyal supporter, and his most comforting companion.  ~ Amen ~*~*~*~*~*~*~ I am amazed at the way God answered this prayer … Seven months later Scott developed a life-threatening blood disorder ... some thoughts on prayer

I had the honor of spending some time yesterday morning with a sweet young lady who has been struggling lately ... dealing with a lot of stuff. In the course of our conversation, I asked her about her prayer life and she said, "I don't know how to pray." Not the first time I've had someone tell me that very thing. So, I've been thinking a lot today about the things I shared with her about prayer and how thankful I am that she was encouraged by them. I think a lot of people are intimidated ... [Read More]
