31 Verses to Pray for Your Marriage {Deuteronomy 6:5}

You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your might.

Deuteronomy 6:5

Family time.

Date night.

Work commitments.

Church obligations.

Community responsibilities.

The 24 hours we have each day is never enough to do all that needs to be done. We live in a time when filling our days with good things, important things, is easy. We can easily move from one activity to the next, serving others and living a good life … but missing out on what really matters.

This verse in Deuteronomy is part of “the shema,” the foundational prayer in Judaism. The first prayer learned by Jewish children and often recited twice daily by Orthodox Jews, these verses {Deuteronomy 6:4-9} are a constant reminder of the Lord’s proper place in life — of His priority.

Why does this matter? Why did I include it in a list of verses to pray for our marriages?

If we don’t keep the Lord in His rightful place, everything else will be out of order. And if we desire for our marriages to grow and flourish, we need to be diligently seeking God first and abiding in Him. Our love for and personal relationships with the Lord should be the solid foundation upon which our love for each other as spouses is built.

31 verses to pray for your marriage - deuteronomy 6:5

Lord, may our deep love for You be the foundation of our love for one other. As we grow in devotion to You, may our marriage vows deepen. As we faithfully abide in You, may our commitment to one other be strengthened. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
