I know … so many of you are still covered up with snow. But we’re starting to see hints of spring here in North Alabama. And I am so thankful! After living in South Georgia for almost 11 years and yearning for all four seasons, I never thought I’d reach the point I was sick of wearing my boots … but, y’all, it has.  I’m ready for flip flops and capri pants and sundresses … aaaahhhh.

Anyway, back to the whole invest in your marriage thing we’ve been chatting about all month, today I was thinking how nice it would be if we just took a walk with our husbands. And, since I try to be very realistic about life, I want you to know that it doesn’t really matter where you walk.  It can be a Friday night date walking around Home Depot dreaming about redoing the kitchen or maybe the two of you would prefer to pick up a Starbucks and walk around Target. Maybe you’re like my friend Erin and her husband and your walk might be a run together.  {Trust me, this is highly unlikely to occur in my marriage!}

Again, the point isn’t where you walk, how fast, or for how long … the point is doing it together.

Last summer we went on vacation with Scott’s family.  Four generations all piled up in a beach house … we played Uno Attack and sat on the porch watching the waves.  We ate and we laughed. We wandered around Ocean Springs, MS, and even took a day trip to New Orleans. Scott’s grandparents who are in their 80s went with us.  I was behind them and caught this photo:

They’ve been married 67 {almost 68!} years … and I watched them hold hands and walk together. In that moment I made a promise to myself that Scott and I would take more walks and we’d hold hands while we walk.

So, today, I’m encouraging you to take a walk with your husband.  Hold his hand.  Be together and enjoy it!

When was the last time you and your  husband took a walk?

Cheering you on,
TL

  1. I love to walk with my best friend, holding hands, laughing, dreaming, and just being comfortable in the silence of thought! I love the picture of the grandparents!!! I love how they have continued to move together in life not staying in the past but moving forward together… This, I believe is what has given them so many years together!!! Walking through life together in all God has for us as individuals and as couples will bring so much blessing to our lives and to our family and ultimately to everyone we have contact with! Walking with The Lord in unity alongside our spouse is such a great privilege and blessing!! And you know how I knew from the picture that the grandparents have done this?? I would never have guessed they were in there 80’s… They look young, vibrant and in love… Dress hip and with the times… Not stuck in the past… Have taken care of themselves physically and to see they still hold hands after 67+ years is a testament to their love for God and each other!!! This is what I want for my relationship!!! Thanks for sharing!!
