#MarriagePrayers || 31 Verses to Pray for Your Marriage

I have said these things to you, that in me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation. But take heart; I have overcome the world. — John 16:33

Life is hard, y’all. For real. And even though I have never experienced any real persecution for my faith, I know a little bit about suffering. We all do. As individuals and as a couple — suffering is the reality of living in this fallen, broken world. The question isn’t, “Will we suffer?” and it really isn’t “What will we suffer?” The real question we need to face is this,

“How will we respond to the inevitable suffering of life?”

Scott and I don’t respond to difficult situations the same way. He tends to pull into himself, working through it all internally. I, on the other hand, want to do two things: talk about it endlessly and cry a lot.  As you can imagine, those approaches aren’t always the most compatible. 🙂

While our individual responses are opposite, there is a shared way in which we deal with the trials life brings. We lean into each other, yes, but more — we lean into Jesus.

When life brings the hospital stays and the failed marriages of those we love and the far-too-soon death of fathers and the wondering if we’ll survive the teenage years and the dreams that won’t come true … when life brings the hard stuff, we trust Him. We find peace in Him. And we remember He has overcome the world and in Him, we too overcome.

Please, please hear me: this isn’t always easy and there have been times when we’ve struggled to get to the peace part of the promise and there have days {weeks!} we we didn’t feel much like overcomers. In those seasons, we have rested in the truth of God’s Word, not in our feelings. We have trusted in His sovereignty, not in our limited understanding of our situations.

So when the hard days come, when you’re wrestling with fears and doubts and sin and heartache, don’t give in to the feeling that you’re the only ones or that you’re failing or nothing good will ever come. Instead, lean into each other and in Jesus, the Prince of Peace.

Today’s Prayer

When life brings the hospital stays and the failed marriages of those we love and the far-too-soon death of fathers and the wondering if we'll survive the teenage years and the dreams that won't come true ... when life brings the hard stuff, we trust Him. We find peace in Him. And we remember He has overcome the world and in Him, we too overcome.

Jesus, the hard days are going to come. We’ll face suffering and trials and heartache. We know we won’t always understand why or how it happened. Some days we’ll want to give up. Help us remember in You we have peace, even in the hardest days. Remind us that You have overcome and through You, we too can overcome. May we lean into You and draw close to each other in every situation. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
