My New Journaling Bible || HCSB Illustrator’s Notetaking Bible

So, I have a new journaling Bible. Yes, this makes three. Whatev. 🙂

I use my journaling Bibles in different ways and I have loved experimenting with techniques and tools. I love the way I can slow down and meditate on a passage or idea or even a word as I create on the pages of my Bible. It has become a very important part of my time in the Word. And I’ve also loved the challenge of learning new ways to illustrate what God is showing me.

I am a pretty good hand letterer … but, y’all, I can’t draw worth a hoot! Seriously, I’m definitely more of a Picasso and I wish I was more of a Monet.

HCSB Illustrator's Notetaking BIble review

When I had the opportunity to get the Illustrator’s Notetaking Bible from B&H Publishers, I jumped on it! This Bible already has a bunch of illustrations ready to fill in and even add to.

I love that the illustrations are in a light gray which makes it easy to fill them in with colored pencils, ink pens, or other tools. Here is an illustration I am currently working on.  After the hard days we faced last week, it is a good reminder to me that God’s grace is always enough and is more than sufficient to perfect my weakness.

The paper in this Bible seems to be a little thicker than in my other journaling Bibles. There is no bleed through whenI use my Micron or Sharpie pens. But I have really liked how colored pencils look lately. I like how easy it is to trace even the narrow lettering.

Many of the illustrations are easy to extend beyond the side margin to cover the whole page. I love this gorgeous image for Psalm 1. And it was very simple to take the grass and sky all the way across the page.

And when you want to add your own notes or illustrations or lettering in the margins, there is room for that as well.  Psalm 34 was the focus at a retreat where I recently spoke. I loved taking time to create a special spot to remember the weekend and to highlight the verses that we had discussed in our sessions.

I also showed this Bible to some of the college girls at my church who are a little intimidated by the idea of drawing or lettering on their own. They all loved this as an option. This would be a great gift for a younger girl who is artistic or creative and wants to explore Bible journaling.  If you’ve been wondering about all the journaling Bibles but  nervous about jumping it, the Illustrator’s Notetaking Bible is a great tool for easing in and finding your sweet spot with Bible journaling.

So tell me, have you been interested in Bible journaling? What has kept you from trying it?

  1. Awesome! I have one and love it. Great lettering you added there. What kind of markers, pencils did you use? I am mostly using twistable colored pencils, because I am afraid it will bleed through. Any other suggestions?
