Encouraging One Another

So, you know my girl is cheering this year. It's been so much fun to watch her at the games so far {both of them}.  Today, is her first pep rally and home game. I'm sure my Instagram feed will be replete with photos from the fun. As I've watched my girl settle into the routine of practices, games, and generally spirited life of cheerleading, I found a couple of things we can earn from the peppy girls on the sidelines.   Will you join me at Mothers of Daughters where I'm sharing what I've ... When You Want to Guide Your Girl toward God

I'm good at some "mom" things.  I can fix my girl's hair pretty much any way she wants it.  I'm learning how to create some pretty amazing nail art.  I don't loathe watching all the cheesy Disney movies. And I know how to make a mean tie-dye waffle. But one area I'm realizing I haven't been as diligent in is the one area that really matters most: guiding my girl's heart toward God. I know, I could get asked to quit writing for Mothers of Daughters and maybe even Hope for the Weary Mom ... [Read More]

Lesson Plans for Mom?

This month at Mothers of Daughters we're sharing about Lessons ... it's back to school season and Stacey thought we might have some ideas, encouragement, or insight to share as we head into the new school year. In case you haven't noticed, it's been a bit of a rough season of parenting for me lately.  I'm worn thin and worn out.  I couldn't think of a thing to share with other girl moms.  I'm hoping that somehow I'll look back on this summer and see something besides too much activity and not ... On Weaknesses and Parenting

I've been writing a lot more about parenting lately. Not because I have all the answers ... quite the opposite in fact.  It seems I basically coasted through the first 12 years of being a mom.  My girl was never really sick, potty trained easily, wasn't clingy, ate well, had lots of friends, and in general was a delightful person. But something crazy happens when a girl turns 13.  Or maybe it's just that something crazy happens to a mom when her girl turns 13. Either way, life since February ... [Read More]

Dear Weary Mom, The Hardest Lesson

It's Thursday.  I love Thursdays.  Thursdays around here are for dishing up truth and hope and grace about mothering.  And I'm so glad you are here to join me.  So let's get going . . . This mothering gig is so much harder than I ever thought it would be.  And I'm so much worse at it than I thought I'd be. Seriously, I thought I'd be awesome! Especially at having a teenager.  I mean, my husband was youth pastor for years.  Parenting a child of our own would be a breeze after that. {Yeah, go ... [Read More]

Mothering Is Just Hard

Before you read any further, know this: I love my people.  Desperately.  And I know they love me. But this business of family, it's tough. Placing others ahead of myself doesn't come naturally and I battle against it every step of the way.  Yesterday, I said the words that will require turning in my Pinterest-perfect mom card, "How much longer until school starts?"  Because, really, y'all, I'm tired of the non-routine of summer. I want to give my girl the freedom to sleep late on the ... [Read More]
