{Joy Day 8} Joy in the Faith

I am hard pressed between the two.  My desire is to depart and be with Christ, for that is far better.  But to remain in the flesh is more necessary on your account.  Convinced of this, I know that I will remain and continue with you all, for your progress and joy in the faith, so that you may have ample cause to glory in Christ Jesus, because of my coming to you again.

Philippians 1:23-26, emphasis added

Does your faith bring you joy?   Is your life filled with joy that transcends all things temporal?   Here are some simple truths about joy:

  • Joy is based on reality of God’s goodness, not on circumstances.
  • Joy is based on truth of our relationship with the Father through the Son not on our efforts, accomplishments, or willpower.
  • Joy is the result of choosing to look beyond the emotion of what appears to be true to live in what IS true about our life in Christ.

When we live in this reality, finding joy in our faith – in the grace and love of a God who has given us eternal life – we are changed.   Our lives become beacons of light in a world wandering in darkness.

Oh Heavenly Father, thank You for joy, for grace, for life.   Today will You guide us to live in that great joy?  Cause our faith to transform our demeanor, our expectations, our outlook … our hearts, our words, our actions.   As You change us, as You grow our faith, lead us into joy unimaginable!  In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
