And he said, “Naked I came from my mother’s womb, and naked I shall return. The Lord gave, and the Lord has taken away; blessed be the name of the Lord.”
Job 1:21
“The Lord gave and the Lord has taken away.” That’s a hard sentiment to accept sometimes. We like the first part — but when the Lord takes away, well, that’s not our favorite thing, is it?
It’s easy to get into the habit of seeing what is wrong or what we don’t have and allow that to color everything in our lives. But Job’s words remind us God is ever in control and always worthy of our praise.
Perhaps you struggle with contentment in your marriage. Trust the Lord with your situation and your relationship and ask Him to give you the humility and faith to echo the words of Job, “The Lord gave, and the Lord has taken away; blessed be the name of the Lord.”
Lord, may our marriage be one that offers praise in all things and all knows. Keep us firm in our knowledge that You area always worthy of our praise. Help us trust in the truth You are always working for our good. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
