And if it is evil in your eyes to serve the Lord, choose this day whom you will serve, whether the gods your fathers served in the region beyond the River, or the gods of the Amorites in whose land you dwell. But as for me and my house, we will serve the Lord.
Joshua 24:15
The Israelites had to make a choice — who would they serve. Each family had to decide for themselves. Joshua made his famous proclamation,
“But as for me and my house, we will serve the Lord.”
And it’s likely at least one or two of you reading this post have those same words displayed somewhere in your home. But the truth is: hanging the verse on the wall isn’t the same as living it out every day.
Serving the Lord, submitting to His will and plan, isn’t always the easy choice. In fact, sometimes it is the hardest choice, the most difficult path. When we choose to serve the Lord, as individuals and as a couple {and ultimately as a family}, we experience joy and peace unavailable to those who don’t serve Him.
Lord, we don’t know where the road ahead will take us. We don’t know what our life journey will bring. But we will make this our declaration — in celebration and in sorrow — we will serve You. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
