Construction Zone: Good in Me

Fire test the purity of silver and gold, but a person is tested by being praised. Proverbs 27:21

Wow!  All the times I have read this verse and it has never stood out to me before. But, wow!, I need to absorb this truth.  What a very real thing for me – I do get so prideful about myself – and even more so when I am praised.  What a convicting truth … the purity of my heart and life can be measured by my response to praise.  Lord, help me grasp this truth and be changed by it.

And so, today, mere days after attending Relevant, I’m aware of how the Lord has worked in me … I’m not yet ready to share all the inner-teaching He is doing, but I have come face-to-face with this one truth … My one desire is this:  ALL of Him, none of me. Graciously people shared with me that words on screen, etched from my heart, have been meaningful or helpful or encouraging .. and my heart cries out, it’s not me, it’s only Jesus.

All day long yesterday the words, “The only thing that’s good in me is Jesus” rolled around my head and my heart.  There is a song that articulates far better than I ever can how deep my awareness of this truth is, I urge you, ask you, today, please take a moment to listen … and pray with me for ALL of Him, none of me.

  1. Great one my friend! I often fall into the trap of doing things for praise and not giving ALL the glory to God. I love that when people compliment us on our son – my hubs is so quick to say that we can't take the credit, it's all due to the Lord! I need to work on that.

I'm sure you had an amazing time at Relevant! I love what I'm hearing about it on other blogs and the changes that women are making – so good! Praise the Lord!

  2. Wow, that verse is very convicting! And so true!

I'm so glad we got to meet. I look forward to seeing you again, sooner than later! : )

  3. Thank you for tweeting the conference. You, a few others & MomTV made it possible for me to "attend".
