The Construction Zone

Under Construction
Over the past ten years my life has been under major construction by the Lord.  That process began, as it generally does, with a keen awareness of a need in my life.  My urgent prayer, as I held my new baby and moved nine hours away from our family, was for wisdom. Wisdom in parenting, in marriage, in living, in loving … in everything.  I claimed James 1:5 just about every day.

If any of you lacks wisdom, he should ask God who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to him.

And, based on a little snippet I heard about Billy Graham, I began reading a chapter of Proverbs every day.   It’s now a habit for me … though many other things may not be accomplished on any given day, it is almost guaranteed that I will read a chapter of Proverbs, even if it’s right before I go to bed.

Do I think I’m wise?  Not particularly … though I know that God is at work in me and that progress in my spiritual development is being made. I’m learning principles for living that transcend circumstances and personality types … and I hope I am being a good steward of what I’m learning.

This month is going to be crazy busy for me … and, as y’all are well aware, I’m a lopsided living sort of girl.  So, when I looked at my calendar and saw how much is going on … two big trips, family visiting, Scott gone for a few days, Care Net banquets and a few other things like a new blog under construction … I knew that I needed to practice what I preach!  So, I decided to spend a month taking you through a little of my history – a little glimpse into the past several years as God has been remodeling my heart.

Each day of October – even on the weekends! – I’ll be sharing with you a short portion of my journal from over the years. I’d love it if you decided to join this little construction project too … just read a chapter of Proverbs every day and drop by here share what verse/s stuck out to you.

So, let’s get going …

Let those who are wise listen to these proverbs and become even wiser.  And let those who understand receive guidance by exploring the depth of meaning in these proverbs, parables, wise sayings, and riddles. Proverbs 1:5-6 NLT

Lord, teach me to explore the depths!  Not only of Proverbs but also all of Your Word.  Renew my zeal and my passion for all the Word. Let it be the bread that sustains me and the light that guides me.  Pierce my heart and use it to convict me – separating the flesh from spirit in me.  Thank you for the great blessing and privilege of teaching Your Word and the depth of joy I find in it.  ~ Amen

Five and a half years later and I’m still praying to know the depths!  What are the ongoing prayers in your life?

  1. My prayer is for wisdom…wisdom… and more wisdom. When we started our family I thought I knew so much. It didn't take very long to realize that I didn't know anything and there was no way I could do it without His help. Now as we are embarking on their preteen/teen years I feel so inept. I just need wisdom. His wisdom.

I look forward to learning a little more about you over the next month.

  2. Yea! We love reading a proverbs a day. Can't wait to learn along side of you this month! And the icon is ADORABLE!

  3. Stephanie, so true. The older C gets the more I'm aware of how desperately I need the wisdom of the Lord to parent her. Long gone are the days of guarding fingers from electric sockets … now we are doing all we can to guard her heart from "people sock-its"!

  4. What a great idea! I know many will be blessed going through Proverbs together. I pray each day that God will guard my mouth. Multiple times a day!
