{Top Ten} Must Have Items for 5th Grade Field Trips

While I enjoyed every minute of my two-day dash through midtown Atlanta with the girl and about one hundred of her classmates on the fifth-grade class trip, I did find there are several must-have items for this sort of adventure. {And sadly, I learned about the need for a few because I *didn’t* have them!}

  1. Paper towels for when your child sets a FULL RED Gatorade bottle OPEN in the cooler … and it leaks all over the bus directly in front of the “No Food, Drinks, or Gum” sign.
  2. Extra pillows and blankets for the sweet girls who will be freezing on the bus … if you lack blankets, they’ll gladly take the sweater you are wearing leaving you freezing.
  3. Noise-reduction ear buds and a great playlist to drown out the incredibly LOUD movies played during the incredibly LONG bus ride.
  4. Clearly marked belongings of your child … so they don’t get mixed up with everyone else’s not-so-clearly marked belongings.  {Adorable pillow made by the beautiful Beth of Sew Anyhow!}
  5. A willingness to take photos ad nauseam of random poses with all sorts of interesting {or not so interesting} props.
  6. Fabulous adults as fellow chaperones … preferably the moms of your daughter’s closest friends.
  7. Plenty of money for the requisite souvenirs – including but not limited to, matching shirts for the girl and at least one of her friends.
  8. The most wonderful fifth-grade home room teacher evah!  We love Mrs. Murray!!
  9. An eye mask for the non-sleeping that occurs on the bus.
  10. Someone who will take a picture of you and your girl to record the wonderful time you shared!

{Sadly, I realized that I inadvertently deleted all the photos from the Braves game, the Cyclorama, and the Medieval Times show … so apparently, you also need more sleep after the trip before you edit the photos of the trip.}

What was your favorite thing about field trips as a child?

Happily linking to Oh Amanda’s Top Ten Tuesday this week … which you MUST check out because she got to WORK AT THE DOVE AWARDS!!  How cool is that??

  1. Ah, I love this, TL! I am cracking up at the way these girls relish getting their picture taken! While chaperoning my boys’ 5th grade field trip to the Denver Botanical Gardens last week, I could only snap a picture if my group of 5 boys wasn’t looking. Otherwise, they’d jump behind a tree! Just one of many differences between the genders, I guess!

  2. Okay. Really? I cried. She still likes the pillow I made. The poses were just too hilarious. I need the sleep mask with sunglasses for my frame full of C pictures. And the girl is growing up so fast. I’m missing so much!! And I’m still crying. Love you all and miss you terribly!

    • Oh I miss you too! MUCH … soon, soon, it won’t be so long between visits. {my fervent prayer!}

  3. That looks like such a fun trip! Great pics and great list friend! Kiddo hasn’t had long field trips like that, but they did dress up for Literature Day (Hans Brinker) last week and have a day full of fun including going to the ice skating rink. When I was a kid, we could only go on field trips that we could walk to. So my biggest adventure was always Summer Camp. Hugs!
