Let those of us who are mature think this way, and if in anything you think otherwise, God will reveal that also to you. Only let us hold true to what we have attained. Brothers, join in imitating me, and keep your eyes on those who walk according to the example you have in us.
Philippians 3:15-17, emphasis added
Welcome Sunday! The past seven days have been long and filled with many difficulties, worries, and fears. What a sweet reminder from these verses this morning … Let us hold true to what we have attained. Sometimes I feel like I haven’t attained all that much. {Can you relate?} But as I look back over the week, I realize I’m holding true to gratitude and to grace. I’m leaning into what I’ve learned (attained) about Who He is and who I am not. I’m clinging to the righteousness of Christ and leaving behind the fear and insecurity. And most of all, I’m holding true to the Gospel of Salvation … and inviting others to experience this new life I’ve found in Him. I wonder, to what are you holding true?
Lord, teach me to hold true to what I have attained … to what I’ve learned and found in You. So often I hold true to the lies of fear and failure. As life brings difficulties, remind me of Your promise. When days seem unending, pull me in to Your unending love. For the moments when fear screams in my head, turn my heart to Your gentle whisper of peace. You, Jesus, are Truth … so this day, this first day of a new week, Lord, I hold true to You. In the sweetness of Your name I pray, Amen.
