{Joy Day 25} Help These Women

I entreat Euodia and I entreat Syntyche to agree in the Lord.  Yes I ask you also, true companion, help these women, who have labored side by side with me in the gospel together with Clement and the rest of my fellow workers, whose names are in the book of life.

Philippians 4:2-3, emphasis added

Help these women … Have you ever felt that way?  Seeing the conflict between two women (or more) in your church and knowing that they both long to serve the Lord but have allowed our enemy to work a wedge in their relationship?   It breaks my heart.   I’ve watched it destroy friendships and hurt ministries.    We are encouraged to get involved … Paul called the church at Philippi to, “Help these women.”  Not to foster the conflict or take sides but to engage in the sweet ministry of reconciliation.   Euodia and Syntyche were laborers for the Lord, believers in Christ, who had gotten off track.   And it was their church’s privilege and duty to help them work through the issues.   Perhaps there is a similar situation in your faith family.   Will you pray for the wisdom and courage and grace to help?

Father, how it must break Your heart to see Your children in conflict with each other.    We are quick to allow petty jealousies and insecurities to take hold of us and when we do the price in our churches can be high.  But the price in our relationship with You is much higher.   Cause our hearts to love one another and give us wisdom to encourage healing between others.   We know that others know we are Yours when we love each other.   Grant us that desire.  In Jesus’ Name, Amen.

Possibly the best book I’ve read on friendships between women.  Check out my review of Friendships for Grown-Ups and my interview with author Lisa Whelchel.

Read the Psalms this summer with Scripture Dig!
