Have Yourself a {Mary} Little Christmas – Introduction

Have Yourself a Mary Little Christmas - www.terilynneunderwood.com

Not all women are Marthas, but even women who aren’t generally become Marthas at Christmas.  How else would Christmas get done if it weren’t for us.

Gift-buying. Menu-making. Present-wrapping. Cookie-baking. House-decorating.  Tree-trimming.  Party-hosting.  Photo-taking.  No-sleeping.

It’s the most wonderful time of the year!   And the most exhausting.

Whether we busy ourselves with Jesse Trees and Advent wreaths or Santa Claus and The Nutcracker Suite or some combination of the two … we busy ourselves.

And somehow Christmas becomes big.   Huge.   Overwhelming.   And we end the season realizing the things that mattered didn’t always get done and the people we wanted to spend time with were often overlooked in the hustle of all the holly-jollying.

We all know the story of Mary and Martha.  Mary the listener, Martha the doer.    And we probably can all see a little bit of Martha in ourselves around this time of year.   But, deep inside, don’t we all long for a Mary sort of Christmas?

We’re going to spend the next two Wednesdays and Thursdays discussing three Marys who experienced Jesus in very real and very different ways.   I would love for you to join me over the next few weeks as we explore these women and their interactions with Christ, learning from their words to and about Him.   And, in the end, my prayer is that you too will

  1. This sounds awesome! I love reflecting on Mary (Jesus’ mother) during Christmas – to review her story and journey – to “watch” in my mind’s eye and wonder. Thanks! I’ll also be reading!

  2. This is my first time to your blog (if you don’t count the last couple of days). I found you by accident as I was looking up some material for a MOPS devotional I was to give last Wednesday, but I found you too late.

Anyhoo, I love this series and plan on posting the links on my blog. I hope you don’t mind!

    Very glad I found you!
