Links to all the #MarriagePrayers are at the end of this post! ~ TL

June 12, 1995.

A friend of mine wanted to go hear this group called Eternity. I went with her because what else was I going to do on a Monday night. Little did I know …

Eternity 1994-1995

Can we say mid-1990s?

That night would change my life forever. As one of singers introduced the members of Eternity (think similar to Truth on a much smaller scale), he mentioned he was from Muscle Shoals, Alabama. I knew someone else from Muscle Shoals so after the concert I introduced myself to the guy. His name was Scott Underwood and he was not interested in having a conversation with me at all. Little did he know …

June 12, 1996.

One year later, on Scott’s 25th birthday, we had been married just less than two weeks. We thought we had the world by its tail.  He was on staff at a church and I had a job in marketing for an international manufacturing company.  We were bright-eyed and ready to do whatever the Lord asked of us. We were thrilled to be at the start of what we knew would be a huge adventure as Mr. and Mrs. Scott Underwood.  Little did we know …

Oh how little did we know!! As we rapidly approach our 20th anniversary on June 1, 2016, we’ve found out exactly how little did we know. We didn’t know starting our family would be nearly impossible. We didn’t know God would call us to move far away from everyone we knew with a six-month-old baby.  We didn’t know we would say good-bye to Scott’s dad far too soon.  We didn’t know anything about ITP and heart attacks.  We didn’t know the joys and heartaches of raising a daughter.  We didn’t know the ways marriage would be so much harder than we imagined. We didn’t know the way our love would be tested and grown.

We didn’t know much … and, truthfully, I’m not sure we know much more now. But we knew something then and we’ve found it more true with each passing year — praying for our marriage is the best investment we could ever make.
