Construction Zone: Pride

March 2, 2006 For the Lord grants wisdom!  From His mouth come knowledge and understanding. Proverbs 2:6 NLT From today’s devotion - “Since God is the ultimate source of wisdom, those who try to become wise on their own will not succeed.” Lord, help me remember this truth!  Too often I rely on my knowledge and understanding.  Forgive me for my pride and arrogance.  ~ Amen ~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~ Time and again I’ve been reminded that it is only by God’s grace that I am able to grow and learn … and only ... The Construction Zone

Over the past ten years my life has been under major construction by the Lord.  That process began, as it generally does, with a keen awareness of a need in my life.  My urgent prayer, as I held my new baby and moved nine hours away from our family, was for wisdom. Wisdom in parenting, in marriage, in living, in loving … in everything.  I claimed James 1:5 just about every day. If any of you lacks wisdom, he should ask God who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given ... [Read More]

Civil Assent in the Church

This is it, y’all!  The last post what I’ve begun calling the “Be Polite!” series. Civil Assent to Government

I’m not writing to defend a party or a position … because the issue as I see it transcends Red State, Blue State or liberal and conservative.  This isn’t about Tea Parties or Green Rallies. This is about obedience. Not to government but to the Lord. Let everyone be in subjection to the governing authorities.  For there is NO AUTHORITY except FROM GOD, and those which exist are ESTABLISHED BY GOD.  Romans 13:1 NASB (emphasis added) We are subject to our government.  Period. In fact, verse 2 of ... [Read More]

Civil Assent at Work

Out of respect for Christ, be courteously reverent to one another.  Ephesians 5:21 MSG Two and a half weeks ago we began looking at relationships through the lens of this verse.  Using a simple premise, that submission begins with just being polite, we’ve explored how that changes both our marriages and our parenting. For the rest of this week, we’re going to take this idea outside our homes. What does this polite submission look like in our workplaces and our communities?  How does it affect ... [Read More]

It’s only halftime?

In case you are unaware, I am a football fanatic. I watch college football for HOURS every weekend.  It begins with the Thursday night game and doesn’t end until I’ve checked the new rankings on Sunday mornings.  We are Auburn fans at Chez Underwood … huge Auburn fans.  And my daughter is slowly learning to enjoy the game, or maybe it’s just that she enjoys watching her momma jump around like a crazy woman, I’m not going to ask.  Sometimes though, when the games have been on all day she’ll come ...
