Simple Living = Simple Speaking

Let's see, we started this examination of Richard Foster's controlling principles of simplicity on January 19 ... there are ten principles so I should have wrapped up the posts last week.    I've learned another lesson about simplicity and blogging: When life gets crazy, roll with it and hope your readers are still around!! Today, we'll look at the eighth principle outlined by Foster in Celebration of Discipline: The Path to Spiritual Growth: Obey Jesus' instructions about plain, honest ... [Read More]

Construction Zone: Self Control

December 29, 2006 Scott’s in the hospital – since Wednesday.  I’m stressed out and not managing very well, at least not like I’d like to.  I wish I had more composure – so that even when I’m stressed, I could still manage to keep it together. Lord, take care of my husband,  He’s Yours – I know that.  I’m scared to lose him, scared of life without him – but I DO trust You.  I believe, Lord, help my unbelief. Construction Zone: Words

November 17, 2005 A truly wise person uses few words; a person with understanding is even-tempered.  Even fools are thought to be wise when they keep silent; when they keep their mouths shut, they seem intelligent.  Proverbs 17:27-28 Two ears, one mouth … listen more, speak less … Just because I think it, doesn’t mean I have to say it!!! ~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~ Honestly, this remains a challenge for me … and as I prepare to head to Relevant this weekend, I’m even more mindful of the need to ... Living in the ... [Read More]

Construction Zone: The Mouth

September 10, 2008 Don’t talk too much, for it fosters sin.  Be sensible and turn off the flow.  The words of the godly are like sterling silver; the heart of the fool is worthless. Proverbs 10:19-20 NLT Ouch!  This one still gets me every month.  Reminds me of James 1:19 – quick to listen, SLOW to speak. God, this one is hard … so hard.  My filter stinks!  Please help me learn to be cautious to guard my speech.  I want to be sensible.   I just need to learn to be quiet … just because I ... [Read More]
