15 Ways to Pray for Your Church

Ever wonder how and what to pray for your church? Here are 15 ideas.

I love Easter Sunday. Everything about it … from the little girls with hairbows bigger than their heads to the teary eyes throughout our sanctuary as we sing of the resurrected Christ. I love the newness Easter brings, the hope and the life we experience in Christ.

Last night our church was blessed by the music of the SOZO children’s choir from Uganda. {Here is a live video from our Sunday morning service.} Y’all, my heart could have burst as these beautiful children sang of the love and belonging they’ve found in Christ. When the littlest girl stood before us proclaiming with joy, “There are no strangers. There are no outcasts. There are no orphans of God So many fallen, but hallelujah. There are no orphans of God” … y’all, I couldn’t stop the tears. Because isn’t that the hope of Easter — we all belong! He died for us and was raised that we might live in Him and with Him forever.

And so, today, I sit here basking in the glory of the resurrection … but also reminded of what Jesus’ next and final instructions were to us, to the Church He began.

Jesus came and told his disciples, “I have been given all authority in heaven and on earth. Therefore, go and make disciples of all the nations,[b] baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit. Teach these new disciples to obey all the commands I have given you. And be sure of this: I am with you always, even to the end of the age.” Matthew 28:18-20

As we do this work He left for us, we are not simply individuals — we are a body, we are THE Body. My church, your church, THE Church … one body with one Head.  One body with one purpose — to show His love to a world in desperate need. I’m praying for my church to be a picture of Him in every way and I’m praying for all of us, THE Church, to be a living example of this great love that came and died and was raised again!  Join me?

Jesus left us with a mission and a task. It isn’t easy {He never said it would be!}. But it’s the reason we’re here — to go and tell, to teach and train, to make disciples. And to point others in every way to Him. The Church matters to Jesus — we are His bride! And we need to be ready to spread the Good News, the hope of eternal life, and the promise there are no orphans in God!

  1. So Teri Lynne, I love this! I don’t pray for my church or it’s leaders enough and so thank you so much for the reminder. Also, Those kids! What a joy! MY heart is about to burst with Joy! What a blessing! Following you on Facebook!

  2. This was such a great reminder. I think we all so I often get caught up in prayer for our families that we forget about our church family. Thanks!
