Prayers from the Pews {September Prayer Challenge}

Can you believe it’s already the day after Labor Day? This year has flown by for our family. Maybe it has for yours too?

Perhaps you remember that almost a year ago Scott started a new job — he’s the Associate Pastor at First Baptist Church in Florence, Alabama.  We’ve spent the past eleven months learning the ropes at our new church, getting used to a different church culture, adjusting to a new schedule, and trying hard to remember a whole lot of new names.

It’s been great and we love our faith family deeply!

Loving Your Church Well

One of the most important ways I’ve discovered over the years for loving my church well is prayer.  I’ve shared before that prayer doesn’t come naturally for me. But I’ve also learned that prayer is vital to my own growth as a Christian … and part of that growth is connection to a local body of believers.

I wrote a book a few years ago about my journey of learning how to love the Church. In the book, I share some of the ways I’ve been wounded by church people and how the Lord used church people and His Word to draw me back to a love for His Bride.

Spend September praying Scripture for your church using the book of Acts as a guide.

Prayer is the key to the active faith that moves us forward.

We’re in a season of transition at my church. A tipping point of sorts.  Will we step out in faith to move with Him or not? Will we trust Him enough to walk the very scary path ahead of us? Do we believe He is really going to give us everything we need to do everything He’s calling us to do?

Oswald Chambers wrote, “Prayer does not fit us for the greater work; prayer is the greater work.” More and more, the older I get, I’m finding that is true.

We lay the foundation for everything God is calling us to do in our churches, in our homes, in our communities, and in our own lives through our fervent prayers.  And for me, the best way to pray is praying Scripture.

Praying for Girls is a whole book about praying God’s Word for the girls in your life.  And Prayers from the Pews is a whole book about praying God’s Word for your local church and for the global Church as well.

September Prayer Challenge

Time after time over the past few weeks, I’ve found myself responding to different conversations about my church or someone else’s church or the global Church with this desperate need to pray.  And I want to invite you to join me.

Every day this month I’m sharing a prayer prompt based on the book of Acts (and excerpted from Prayers from the Pews) on both Facebook and Instagram. I’d love for you to join me by praying for YOUR church as I pray for mine. Here’s today’s prompt just to give you a taste …

Super simple … just a reminder based on Acts 4:20 about how important is for us to have boldness in sharing His love and our faith with others.

Joining is easy peasy. Just follow me on Facebook or Instagram (or both) and pray with me each day.  You can also share those images on your own social media accounts and invite others to join us.

Imagine what happens if all of us get serious about praying every day for our churches?

xoxo,

Teri Lynne
