Lent undid me this year. It pressed in on my heart in ways I hadn't expected. Revealed layers of hurt and anger I thought had long since been healed and left behind. All my reading and study over the past six weeks have led me to a strange, uncertain place. The knots of stubbornness and pride are tight ... and I find myself resisting the untying process I know is necessary. The one word that keeps hanging in the air around me is humility. As I read familiar verses from ... [Read More]
Lead Your Family Like Jesus
I live a very real, very ordinary life. There is always laundry to wash and meals to cook. Twenty-four hours never seems like quite enough. And some days it feels like all I'm doing is spinning my wheels. Everything I wash will have to be rewashed. Every meal I cook will be eaten and another one will be needed within a few hours. Dishes fill the sink as fast as I can get them washed and put into cabinets. Beds need making, bathrooms need cleaning ... and before I know it, the ... [Read More]
When God Shows Out
{a Samaritan’s Purse update}
I love being a Samaritan's Purse blogger. What they do is amazing ... through Operation Christmas Child, this ministry impacts the lives of countless children around the world. But Samaritan's Purse does way more than hand out shoeboxes. The Children's Heart Project provides children with life-saving heart surgeries. Through construction projects and disaster relief, staff and volunteers from Samaritan's Purse change lives in the United States and around the world. World Medical Missions ... [Read More]
JOY on the Ride of Life! {a God-sized dreams post}
With the abandon rarely found as we get older, my daughter and her friend raced to the kiddie coaster at a local park. They jumped on board and with arms raised high the laughed and screamed as the ride twisted and turned. I lost count of how many times the went around the tracks as the spring sun shone through the green trees. I took three hundred pictures of these two girls, caught between childhood and adolescence. Eyes sparkling, faces beaming, they rode the coaster, the carousel, and ... [Read More]
Surrendering Is Harder
I'm re-reading Kris's beautiful book, Holey, Wholly, Holy: A Lenten Journey of Refinement. It's leaving me undone all over again. Reminding me just how easy it is to strive instead of surrender. And then I read this from The Practice of the Presence of God, I apply myself diligently to do nothing and think nothing which may displease Him. (38) Scripture reminds me, See I have set before you today life and good, death and evil. Deuteronomy 30:15 My devotion says, To be surrendered ... [Read More]
When What You Really Want Is Space
{a God-sized dreams post}
Holley asked us to answer this question: What do you want more of in your life? Space. I want more margin and room to breathe. Yesterday I had a beautiful conversation with a fellow dreamer, Kris. God has birthed a vision in our hearts, a shared desire to offer encouragement to women. As we chatted about some of the specifics of how this hope inside us might come to fruition, we discussed the need all women have—but most ignore—for space. How we need time and room to rest, to dwell ... [Read More]
