I'm a pastor's wife ... and daughter. (and grand-daughter and great-grand-daughter, in case you wondered) I've been going to church since before I was born. I attended a private Christian college in a small Midwestern town. And, with the exception of a few years in my early 20s, I've been actively involved in church my entire life. But it's not always been easy. I haven't always liked it. In fact, a few years ago, I was ready to ask my husband to leave the ministry, to walk away from ... [Read More]
Can Church and Home Work Together?
A Time of Waiting
As I'm learning to listen this year, the Lord is teaching me something amazing. He slows me so He can show me. That slowing isn't punishment or discipline, it's a gift He offers. Sadly though, I think it's a gift we reject far too often. We'd rather be busy, accomplishing, working, straining, pushing. Oh we say we wish we could slow down, could find quiet spaces to hear from Him, but most of us don't really want that. We are afraid. Afraid of what He'll say. Afraid of what He'll ... [Read More]
Dearest Dreamer … {a God-sized dreams post}
Dearest Dreamer, What dream is God stirring up in your soul? What dream is it that you are tip-toeing around, trying to hush the roar of passion and desire that pounds in your soul? It's scary, isn't it? Overwhelming, too. Oh sweet friend, I know! I mean, really I KNOW. That stirring inside you? That lump-in-your-throat, butterflies-in-your-stomach, is this real feeling? That "What if I can't?" but "What if I don't?" thought, the one always rumbling beneath the busy-ness of "to do" ... [Read More]
Creating Time? 10 Simple Ideas
Is your to do list overwhelming? Have you ever wished for just one more hour in the day? Or one more day in the week? Do you wish you could create more time? Yeah, me too. In fact, if we're honest, I'd imagine we all do. We cannot make our days last 25 hours, but we can find simple ways to use the time we have better. I'm no organizational expert. If you were to come visit my house right now, you'd see my dining room table piled high with all the "stuff" that didn't fit when we put ... [Read More]
What We Say
Another great quote I've found about listening. I've been thinking a lot about how what we say is influenced by what we hear. How do you find your speaking influenced by your listening? ... [Read More]
Are You Too Busy?
As I have been writing and preparing to speak this weekend, I've been re-reading several of my favorite books on rest and priorities. I think my all-time favorite book on the topic of rest and Sabbath is The Rest of God: Restoring Your Soul by Restoring Sabbath by Mark Buchanan. I've underlined and highlighted and dog-eared a large portion of the book. One of my favorite chapters is the one on busyness. Well, maybe favorite isn't the best word. It's a great chapter but it hurts me to ... [Read More]
