Content in This Season

I'm leading an (in)couragers group right now for moms of teenagers.  This session of (in)couragers ends on Friday so I asked the ladies in my group what they had liked most about participating ... here's what some of them said: I love how open everyone has been, how warm and welcoming, and just feeling connected to you all. It means a lot! The connection to others who know about teens since I am really new at this. Feeling like I have a new support system. Knowing I am not alone, and ... [Read More]

Content in Ourselves

As I've grappled with the question: Am I really content in Christ? I'm understanding so much of what I struggle with is rooted in a discontent with myself.  I feel like Eve must have in the garden when she ate that fruit and realized suddenly she was naked.  She felt shame about herself. I get that.  Not just about the way my skin sags and the stretch marks across my stomach and thighs but the shame of past mistakes and bad choices. I look in the mirror and I see wrinkles and dark circles and ... We Learn Contentment

Waaaay back at the beginning of this series I shared one of the truths of living well: We can be content.  This week, we're going to spend some time unpacking this concept and exploring what true contentment looks like in the heart, mind, and life of a believer. Paul wrote in his letter to the Philippians: Not that I am speaking of being in need, for I have learned in whatever situation I am to be content. I know how to be brought low, and I know how to abound. In any and every circumstance, ... [Read More]

You CAN Be Content!

Contentment does not lie around the next corner.  It is not waiting for us on the other side of today's difficulty, nor is it lost with yesterday. Contentment is where God is, and God is with us today. Lydia Brownback ... for I have learned in whatever situation I am in to be content. Philippians 4:11b I'm a dreamer. I like ideas and brainstorming and planning. I love helping others figure out how to chase their dreams. But sometimes I get stuck in the dreaming and fail at the doing.  I long ... [Read More]

Being OK with Where You Are {book review}

When I give my "it" to God I am not setting it free to fly and let the universe decide to bring it back or not. Instead, I am surrendering my plans to a personal God who loves me and knows what is best for my heart. Being OK with Where You Are I have no idea what your "it" is ... in fact, some days I'm not even sure what mine is.  I'm sure I did know, long before the laundry piled up and the pre-algebra homework lasted until bedtime.  But now, somehow, I just feel like I'm treading ...
