When What You Really Want Is Space
{a God-sized dreams post}

Holley asked us to answer this question: What do you want more of in your life? Space.  I want more margin and room to breathe. Yesterday I had a beautiful conversation with a fellow dreamer, Kris.  God has birthed a vision in our hearts, a shared desire to offer encouragement to women.  As we chatted about some of the specifics of how this hope inside us might come to fruition, we discussed the need all women have—but most ignore—for space.  How we need time and room to rest, to dwell ... Creating Time? 10 Simple Ideas

Is your to do list overwhelming? Have you ever wished for just one more hour in the day?  Or one more day in the week? Do you wish you could create more time? Yeah, me too.  In fact, if we're honest, I'd imagine we all do.  We cannot make our days last 25 hours, but we can find simple ways to use the time we have better.  I'm no organizational expert.  If you were to come visit my house right now, you'd see my dining room table piled high with all the "stuff" that didn't fit when we put ... Are You Too Busy?

As I have been writing and preparing to speak this weekend, I've been re-reading several of my favorite books on rest and priorities.  I think my all-time favorite book on the topic of rest and Sabbath is The Rest of God: Restoring Your Soul by Restoring Sabbath by Mark Buchanan.  I've underlined and highlighted and dog-eared a large portion of the book. One of my favorite chapters is the one on busyness.  Well, maybe favorite isn't the best word.  It's a great chapter but it hurts me to ... [Read More]

Adding Anything Affects Everything {a God-sized dreams post}

Several years ago I learned a hard lesson about myself:  I'm a control freak. My need for perfection, to be seen as capable, to never disappoint, that desire for approval was destroying me ... and it was costing me more than realized. I spent a lot of time studying Proverbs 31. In fact, I spent most of 2006 and 2007 digging deep into those passages and looking at the words and phrases, comparing them to other passages of Scripture about women. What I learned changed me. By October of 2007, ... [Read More]

Capturing Moments of Joy

Monday was a great day!  Admittedly, I am a fan of Mondays.  I like the routine and fresh start they offer me each week.   I know, I'm a little weird.  Nonetheless, Monday was a great day.  It's cooled off a little bit here in North Alabama.  Autumnal temperatures in the mornings and evenings are teasing me with the anticipation of pulling out sweaters and boots.  What's not to love? I spent my Monday doing laundry and writing as I listened to birds chirping and picked up papers tossed by the ... [Read More]

Moments to Treasure

Life is precious. But sometimes we lose sight of how fragile life truly is. This past weekend, my cousin, who would have been 45 this November, passed away unexpectedly in her sleep.   This week, while others are celebrating with fireworks and cook-outs, my aunt will be planning the funeral of her firstborn child.  While others are boating on a lake somewhere, my cousin's daughter will be facing the reality of life without her mother in it.    While many are gathering with family for holiday ...
