Prayer for my Daughter

Lord, how humbled I am to mother this child ... this beautiful, funny, sweet child. I'm awed by her humble heart and her desire to serve others. Thank you for this privilege, this blessed honor of discipling and cherishing one so precious to You. Give her strength and courage of heart (Psalm 31:24). May she always find her hope in You (Psalm 38:15). Teach her to praise you, even when life is difficult (Psalm 43:5). Give her wisdom to speak less and listen more (James 1:19). I pray she will ... WORD … Getting started

It doesn't take much time spent on my blog or in my presence to know that I have a passion for the Word of God. I love reading, teaching, sharing, discussing, learning, memorizing ... everything to do with The Bible is precious to me. But I have learned that many people are intimidated and uncertain about time in God's Word ... not because they don't recognize the value of time spent in Scripture but rather they are unsure where or how to begin. I can totally understand that!! In fact, I've ... [Read More]

Open Letter from a Pastor’s Wife

So often people look at me and they THINK they know who I am. After all, I married a man called by God into His ministry ... I must be a super-holy, deeply spiritual person. Some people think I must have a beautiful voice, be an excellent pianist, and love teaching toddlers in Sunday School. Others imagine I am a gifted Bible teacher who bakes fresh bread every day and rises at 4 a.m. to pray for each church member by name. Still there are some who believe my home is always immaculate and I ... [Read More]

I Heard the Bells on Christmas Day

I Heard the Bells on Christmas Day I heard the bells on Christmas day Their old familiar carols play And mild and sweet the words repeat, Of peace on earth, good will to men. I thought how as the day had come, The belfries of all Christendom Had roll'd along th' unbroken song Of peace on earth, good will to men. And in despair I bow'd my head: "There is no peace on earth," I said, "For hate is strong, and mocks the song Of peace on earth, good will to men." Then pealed the bells ... [Read More]

Lord, Test my Thoughts

Tests don't bother me. I'm a student at heart ... I love studying, taking notes, reviewing what I've read ... and even reading the extra reading material. (Skip the nerdy comments, I already know.) But there is a test that I desperately want to pass ... the thought test. This test is administered by God Himself, often at my own request. In the second half of Psalm 139:23, David writes, "Test me and know my anxious thoughts." That cuts me deep ... every. single. time. For I am the queen ... [Read More]

Lord, Know my Heart

Often I find myself longing for more ... more time with Scott, more desire to eat right and exercise, more patience with Casiday ... and more of Christ. I echo the words of His cousin, John, "I must decrease so He can increase." How I yearn for the world to see Him and not me ... and yet I find that a most difficult task. God's Word, though, is full of wisdom in this pursuit. Time and again I find myself praying the words of David from Psalm 139 ... "Search me, O God, and know my heart" (v. ... [Read More]
