Lesson Plans for Mom?

This month at Mothers of Daughters we're sharing about Lessons ... it's back to school season and Stacey thought we might have some ideas, encouragement, or insight to share as we head into the new school year. In case you haven't noticed, it's been a bit of a rough season of parenting for me lately.  I'm worn thin and worn out.  I couldn't think of a thing to share with other girl moms.  I'm hoping that somehow I'll look back on this summer and see something besides too much activity and not ... Praying for My Husband {written prayers}

I'm honored to be sharing today as the final post in my dear friend Julie Sander's summer series, Wedded Wisdom  She invited some of her married friends to share their wisdom and encouragement ... and these are women have certainly done just that! The past several weeks have been filled with practical tips, biblical truth, and the kind of conversation you have with your closest friends.  My post is about praying for my husband. I looked back at several of my own blog posts about marriage ... [Read More]

#SmallTownUSA: The Watermelon Festival

One of my favorite things about small towns is the festivals!  From Crawfish Festival in Woodbine, Georgia, to the Kolache Festival in Prague, Oklahoma, you have to give some props to the creativity of names at least!  This month, on the #SmallTownUSA linky, we're celebrating these weekends of sketchy rides, deep fried food, homemade crafts, and local entertainment. Our little town is home to the Watermelon Festival.  And yes, Russellville is, in fact, the watermelon capital of Alabama.  So ... [Read More]

School Clothes, School Supplies, and Boots for Momma! {Back to School Preparations}

Two weeks from today, my daughter will start her last year of middle school. {Hold me, please.} It's not that I want to go back to the days of diapers and late night feedings. Nor do I wish to return to potty training and the never ending sounds of Barbie princess movies.  I really don't even miss spelling lists or working on multiplication tables {probably because we still end up needing to do those}. But somehow knowing that this time next year we'll be staring at her first high school class ... What I Learned in July

Before we go further I need to say this: I am not convinced today is July 31. Seriously, I'm pretty sure I've been dreaming and I'm going to wake up and it will still be 2012 because there is no way we're already through with seven months of 2013.  But, just to cover all my bases, I'm going to assume iCal is correct and today is indeed the last day of July and this time next month I'll be getting ready for Labor Day and wondering where August went . . . That said, I've determined I ... [Read More]

On Weaknesses and Parenting

I've been writing a lot more about parenting lately. Not because I have all the answers ... quite the opposite in fact.  It seems I basically coasted through the first 12 years of being a mom.  My girl was never really sick, potty trained easily, wasn't clingy, ate well, had lots of friends, and in general was a delightful person. But something crazy happens when a girl turns 13.  Or maybe it's just that something crazy happens to a mom when her girl turns 13. Either way, life since February ... [Read More]
