I'm sitting here listening to the rain {and hoping the wind won't blow it in through my open windows} and contemplating the depths of God's love for me. I hope you know how vast is the love God has for you. Easter is the high point in the Christian church — the celebration of Christ's victory over death and our hope for eternal life. This post from House of Hendrix — I promise, just read it. The most beautiful description of friendship I have read in a very long time. After I'd ... [Read More]
What I Learned in March
So, we are now one quarter through 2015 ... what??? I am joining Emily and a bunch of others sharing what we learned this month. It's so fun to read everyone's discoveries. Baby animals are awesome! My girl and I spent a couple of days with some friends who have a farm in Tennessee. Dry Hollow Farm had lots of babies for us to hold and feed and generally be goofy about. Pete Wilson who wrote Let Hope In {you know, the book I think EVERYONE should read} has a new book ... [Read More]
3 Ways to Cope during Busy Weeks
Too blessed to be stressed and too busy to rest? Welcome to the reality for most Christian women. Desperately trying to be on the go and in the Word — and exhausted. We don’t need one more plan for ordering our days or one more list for accomplishing more. We need someone to whisper, “It’s okay. You’re okay." Can I tell you something important? Busy isn't necessarily bad. Jesus was busy. He was on the go. And, much like the mom with little ones, someone was always wanting something from ... [Read More]
For Your Weekend
Happy Friday! We have survived midterms. Y'all, have I mentioned how much my girl does not enjoy Algebra and how that translates into a wee bit of stress around here? Yikes. Next week she has cheer tryouts. Buddy is hoping for his third year of being a cheer dog. Bless him, right? Since we're focused on all things encouraging and energetic here at the Underwood abode, I thought I'd share some of my favorite fun things lately. For example, Jimmy Kimmel's lip sync battles? Have you seen ... [Read More]
Learning to Offer Continual Praise
This morning I was reading Psalm 61. Witten by David, this psalm is a plea to help him recall the faithfulness of God at all times. These familiar words are from this passage: Lead to me to the rock that is higher than I, for You have been my refuge, a strong tower against the enemy. But David's desire wasn't just to know the presence of the Lord in times of trouble, he sought the comfort of God's nearness at all times. Let me dwell in Your tent forever! Let me take refuge under the ... [Read More]
I Don’t Have to Be the Perfect Mom {and neither do you!}
My friend Marguerite and I walk together several mornings a week. Recently {and what seems like always lately}, I was bemoaning my failures as a mom. Marguerite, who has three boys of her own, looked me in the eyes and said, “You would never let any of your friends talk about themselves like this. Treat yourself the way you treat us.” She was right. I’d never let my friends believe they were failures because of frustration over snow days and a less than extravagant birthday celebration. I’d ... [Read More]
