#SmallTownUSA: Patriotism

Welcome back to the second month of the #SmallTownUSA photo linky!  This month we're celebrating small town patriotism.   I have to admit I had a hard time choosing a photo for this month.  I have a thing for taking photos of the American flag and I have quite the collection of flag photos.  For example, this one taken at the Shiloh National Battleground. But there are also the obligatory food photos, like the yummy Red, White, & Blue Strawberries my girl made for last year's Memorial ... [Read More]

Dear Weary Mom, Invite Someone into Your Mess

It's Thursday, which is rapidly becoming my favorite day of the week around here. I love being able to pour out my heart about all the ways this mom gig can drain me dry.  And I love the way you all leave the sweetest comments to remind me I'm not alone and there is hope!! This week, I'm sharing about hitting rock bottom as a mom over at the Hope for the Weary Mom blog.   It's got all the makings of a good story — teenage hormones, 40-something hormones, door slamming, soul searching, sin ... Vacation and Quiet Times

We're on vacation.  We've got our feet in the sand and enjoying some much-needed time away {and mostly unplugged}.  It's what we need ... though I imagine come Monday I'll be needing a vacation to recover from doing all our vacation laundry! :) This month at Do Not Depart, the theme has been about keeping holy habits while we travel.  There have been so many great resources shared over there over the past few weeks — everything from memory verses while you travel to a seven-day family ... Dear Weary Mom, Meet My Friends

I'm at youth camp. In Panama City Beach. While I am having some real issues with the idea that I have a daughter old enough to attend youth camp, I am enjoying myself. {Though to be honest, I'm more weary of body than of mind and spirit at this point!} So, since I'm out of town, I didn't do a Dear Weary Mom letter. Here's why ... each week you all leave the sweetest comments and share your own weary burdens. It blesses me and encourages me and I love every comment you leave. I don't want ... [Read More]

10 Great Books for Moms

I've been writing a lot {okay, mostly}about parenting lately.  There are several reasons for that but the main one is, right now, it's just hard.  I think I might have mentioned before how much more challenging parenting a teenager is than I'd ever dreamed.  And I'm not alone.  I get phone calls and texts and emails almost every day from friends who are trying to navigate these tricky waters without going under and without losing their kids {and their minds!} to the riptides that keep popping ... For the Dads {Happy Father’s Day!}

{This post was so easy to write because my both my dad and my daughter's dad are the most incredible fathers! Thank you, Daddy, for always believing in me, always cheering me on, and always praying for me. I love you! And thank you, Scott, for giving our daughter the example of what a godly man is, for living a life of integrity, for teaching us to laugh more and live bigger, and most of all for loving both of us so wonderfully! I love you! Happy Father's Day to the two men I love the ... [Read More]
