Have Yourself a {Mary} Little Christmas – Part 4

But Mary treasured up all these things, pondering them in her heart.  Luke 2:19 We've come full circle, back to the young mother of the Savior. Can you see her?  Sitting in a small home, barren of any luxury ... and yet she's smiling.   Eyes closed but face glowing with the peace that comes from within. Mary treasured the moments.    And I imagine as Jesus grew into a man and ultimately was crucified then ascended to heaven, Mary went back to a night in stable with dirty shepherds and ... Leaves in Corners

These leaves, blown into the corner of the concrete steps that lead to our front door, they speak to me. Not a reminder of the need to rake (though that certainly is necessary) but of a weariness that often enters my soul this time of year.   As the sun shines fewer hours and the temperatures drop, the gold and crimson leaves begin to turn brown.   They fall to the ground, speckled with dots of infection, and they alternate wet from the autumnal rains and dried out, dying from being disconnected ... {Joy Day 1} Grace and Peace

Welcome to my first "official" 31 Days series. *I did share some reflections from my own journey of faith every day in October last year.* We'll be spending just a few moments every day journeying through the Book of Philippians.   I'll share some verses, a thought or two, and a prayer.   My hope and prayer is that you will be encouraged and challenged to live the joy-filled life Christ promises us (John 15:11).   Let's jump in! Paul and Timothy, servants of Christ Jesus, To all the saints ... [Read More]

Let Down the Nets

The final session of .MOM was Priscilla Shirer ... and she was fantabulous!  Using Luke 5:1-11 as her text, Priscilla shared how Peter had left his boat after a disappointing and unsuccessful night of fishing ... and yet Jesus used that very boat to teach the crowds, and Peter, AND US!!, "He sees you! We serve a God who sees the deck of disappointment on the boat of your life.  We serve a God who sees the boat of our circumstances and He cares!" With a challenge to consider what boats we have ... Beautifully Devastating

Angie Smith is amazing.  When she spoke last year at a conference I attended, I was moved beyond words.   Giving expression to the depths of despair and the heights of hope, she reminds us to trust God with the hurts and sorrows and longings of our hearts. This past weekend at the dotMom conference she described motherhood as "beautifully devastating."   Oh my word!  Isn't that exactly right?   Devastate means "to lay waste" ... oh y'all, isn't that just what motherhood does to us?   It lays ... A Place to Put Your Feet Up

Home is a place not only of strong affections, but of entire unreserve; it is life's undress rehearsal, its backroom, its dressing room.  ~ Harriet Beecher Stowe The “undress rehearsal” … I love that idea.  My daughter dances and dress rehearsals are a huge part of our lives.  Chaotic, loud, and busy are words that describe the backstage happenings before a production.  Home as an undress rehearsal brings to mind calm, peaceful, and stable. Isn’t that what we desire our homes to be?  A haven ... [Read More]
